In our regular Veda chanting, we ‘intone up’ when we see the stroke above the letter, and when there is no stroke, we intone ‘evenly’ and low when it is Anudhatha. The Udhatha and swaritha description differed in our class. I heard Udatta means no stroke and swaritha has the stroke above letter. But Udhatta is defined as ” Uchchairudhatta”(1/2/29) and “Samahara svaritha” ((1/2/32). why this difference? Is there something I do not know?
